Privacy policy
Effective November 7, 2026
This policy explains how Astrid, a desktop application published by Ryker Flynn Tech Integrations ("we", "us"), handles information when you use it. The short version: Astrid runs on your computer. We do not run servers that receive your conversations, files or connected-app data, we do not collect usage analytics, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.
At a glance
- Your chats, memory, projects, files and settings are stored locally on your device.
- Information leaves your device only to services you choose to use: your AI model provider, web search, maps, image services, and apps you connect (such as Google or GitHub).
- We do not receive your content, we have no analytics or telemetry, and Astrid sends no crash reports to us.
- We do not sell personal information and do not use it for advertising or to train AI models.
- You can export or delete your data in the app at any time.
1. Information Astrid handles
Information you provide
Messages, prompts and instructions you type or dictate; files, images and links you attach; projects, custom instructions, saved memories, skills and settings you create; and the account details for services you connect (API keys, sign-in tokens).
Information created in the app
The assistant's replies, generated images and documents, memory entries Astrid records to remember your preferences, and search indexes of your past chats used for the "reference chat history" feature.
Information from connected services
When you connect a service and ask Astrid to use it, Astrid retrieves the data needed for that request, for example email messages, calendar events, documents, repositories or issues. See Google user data below.
Technical information
Astrid keeps local logs for troubleshooting on your device only. It does not collect device identifiers, usage analytics or location for us. If you use the maps feature, the place names you search for are sent to the map service listed in section 3.
2. Where your information is stored
Astrid stores your data in your user profile on your computer (on Linux, under ~/.config/Astrid). API
keys, passwords and sign-in tokens are encrypted with your operating system's keyring (for example KWallet or GNOME
Keyring) and are never written to Astrid's settings file in plain text. We have no copy of this data.
3. When information leaves your device
Astrid sends information only to the services needed for what you ask, and only services you have configured or turned on:
| Service | What is sent | When |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI model provider (for example OpenAI, OpenRouter, or a local server) | Your messages, the relevant conversation history, attached content, memory context, and results from tools and connected apps that are part of the conversation | Each time you send a message, use voice, or generate an image |
| Web search (DuckDuckGo by default, or Brave, Tavily or SearXNG if you choose them) | Search queries | When web search is on and a search is needed |
| Websites | Standard web requests for pages the assistant opens | When the assistant reads a page or you browse in the built-in browser |
| OpenStreetMap and Nominatim | Map tile requests and place searches | When you use maps |
| Replicate | Image prompts and reference images | When you choose a Replicate image model |
| Connected apps (Google, GitHub and others) | The requests needed to do what you asked, using the sign-in you granted | When you connect an app and when the assistant uses it |
Each of these services handles information under its own privacy policy. Please review the policies of the providers you choose. We do not control them and do not receive copies of what you send to them.
We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. Google user data
If you connect Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides or Google Contacts, Astrid uses Google's sign-in to request access. You choose your Google account and approve the permissions on Google's own consent screen.
- What Astrid accesses: only the data needed to carry out your request in that service, such as searching and reading messages, creating drafts, reading or creating calendar events, or finding and reading files.
- How it is used: solely to provide the features you use in Astrid. The retrieved data is shown to you and, so the assistant can help with it, included in the conversation sent to the AI model provider you chose.
- Storage: sign-in tokens are encrypted in your system keyring on your device. Google data is not stored by us. It may remain in your local chat history or memory on your device until you delete it.
- No human access by us: Google data never reaches Ryker Flynn Tech Integrations, so no person at Ryker Flynn Tech Integrations reads it.
- No advertising, no sale: Google data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train AI models by us.
Astrid's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can disconnect Google at any time in Astrid (Plugins, then Disconnect), which deletes the stored sign-in from your device and asks Google to revoke it. You can also remove Astrid's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
5. Your controls
- Memory: turn memory on or off, choose whether Astrid references saved memories and chat history, and view, edit or delete any saved memory.
- Temporary chats: temporary chats are not saved to your history and never create memories.
- Connected apps: connect, disconnect and set permissions for each app and account.
- Export: export all your data as a file from Settings, Data controls.
- Delete: delete individual chats, archived chats, all chats, memories, or uninstall Astrid and delete its profile folder to remove everything.
6. Retention
Your data stays on your device until you delete it or remove Astrid's profile folder. Information you sent to third parties (such as your AI model provider) is kept according to that provider's retention policy. Because we do not receive your content, we hold nothing to retain or delete. If you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as needed to respond.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Most of these you can exercise directly in the app because your data is on your device. For anything we hold (for example emails you sent us), contact wh.contact@rykerflynn.dev. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
Where we process personal data ourselves (for example replying to your email), we do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you, or to take steps at your request.
8. Children
Astrid is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly process their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
Astrid encrypts keys and sign-in tokens with your system keyring, runs the user interface in a sandbox that reaches the network only through the app's core (apart from map images and voice audio), and connects to services over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so please keep your device and accounts protected.
10. International transfers
Services you choose may process information in other countries, including the United States. Those transfers happen between you and the provider under the provider's terms and safeguards.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will change the effective date above and, for material changes, give notice on this page or in the app.
